Reading and source limits
The clipping reports death at 717 Folsom Street, San Francisco, on Sunday night, from pneumonia after two days’ illness. It describes William as about 40, a former saloon proprietor near the old City Hall, survived by a wife, one child, and brother James, an Oakland undertaker. Burial from Oakland undertaking parlors is announced for the following day.
Source identified by Kevin: The Evening Bee, Sacramento, California, Tuesday, 22 January 1901, Newspapers.com page 623800881. Newspapers.com groups this newspaper under “The Sacramento Bee.” In this dated issue, “Sunday night” refers to 20 January 1901, and the announced burial “tomorrow” refers to 23 January 1901. This timing agrees with the separately dated funeral notice, but an announcement does not confirm completed burial. The earlier supplied page 46464145 is not the source attribution for this image.
The text conflates “Gossoon” and “King of the Potrero.” The existing profiles distinguish Cornelius (Con) from Frank. Preserve this as a newspaper error or ambiguity pending review, rather than merging the brothers.
